Cote Di Franze
Cote di Franze is named after the town where its winery is located, a beautiful area known for a particular soil giving the wine its unique texture and aroma. The cellar of Cote di Franze is based in Cirò, where wine is the product of excellence, passion and commitment of Francesco and Vincenzo Scilanga. Even as children they were always educated about the production techniques of their family. Their wine making tradition has been handed down from father to son for many generations. The family-owned business “works with love to bring forth an ancient passion and to valorize the characteristics of the territory of Cirò and his denomination”.
Currently they produce on nine hectares of vineyards with native the varieties Gaglioppo and Greek White while implementing a biological cultivation method. 80% of production is Gaglioppo and 20% Greek White. Gaglioppo is a red grape variety native to Calabria, which is used for the production of Ciro DOC variations in classic red, rosé and reserves. The color is characterized by its deep ruby red – this grape will evolve into a rich bouquet over time. The rosé is bright pink and has a floral bouquet and is more fruity. The base of the Ciro white is one of the main native Calabrian vines. These grapes are used only for wine-making and are often blended with other varieties. It was once used to obtain raisins or for winter consumption after storage in a loft. In total, Cote di Franze offers a range of six different types of red, rose, and white wines.
