The winery Mastrojanni is located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate which lies in the southeast of the Montalcino municipality that is well known for its wines from the Sangiovese grape. Gabriele Mastrojanni founded the business in 1975, when he bought the San Pio and Loreto estates and planted the first vines in areas previously given over to woods and meadows. The combined property now covers 96 hectares, of which 33 hectares are planted with vineyards including a variety of soils. 17 hectares of these vines qualify for Brunello di Montalcino.
The grapes are mostly fermented in cement tanks, with a selection being vinified in wooden vats to extract further tannins from the wood. After that the vine is racked into large wooden barrels where it remains for up to 42 months. Before selling, the wine stays for at least six additional months in the bottle. Customers have the choice of seven different red wines from different production years.
